          Mentawai people are native to the Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra.They live the lifestyle of hunters in the coastal environment and forests on these islands.

       The Mentawai tribe is one of the most interesting tribes in the Mentawai world.

who are the Mentawai people?
      The Mentawai people live on the island of Siberut about 100 miles from Padang,the capital of west Sumatra and can be found again by boat.Siberut includes Mentawai islands which include Sipora, north Pagai and south Pagai.
    Mentawai is the only animism in Sumatra. They believe that everything in nature has a spiritual essence, and they live in harmony and reconcile with the nature around them.

PACU JAWI PHOTOGRAPHER PROJECT

   
         "PACU JAWI WEST SUMATRA"
    Pacu Jawi is a traditional game of Minangkabau people whose existence until now continues to be maintained. Race Jawi means "fast race" and (Jawi) means cattle, so Pacu Jawi is a race of speed using cattle, where people who take part in running together with his cow.This traditional game will generally be held every time after the harvest and will be held again even when entering rice planting.

    Pacu Jawi is (Minangkabau language) or cow runway is one of the cultural events of western Sumatra. This activity is usually carried out only to fill time after a long period of arrival or sometimes held three times a year before the planting season in Tanah Datar regency,there are sub-districts that maintain this Pacu Jawi tradition, namely: Sungai Tarab, Rambatan, Limo Kaum, and Pariangan.
   Talking about Pacu Jawi can not be separated from the attraction of cattle in Madura.Both of these attractions are similar, but there are several things that distinguish between Pacu Jawi with a calf, one of which is the place of the two of these attractions.If the cows are carried out on dry land, Pacu Jawi is carried out on the former muddy rice fields that have been harvested by the local people. Unlike the cow's crust, Pacu Jawi does not use short sticks and has nails to accelerate the run of cattle on the track.
    Pacu Jawi is pure entertainment for farmers after the harvest period and this is what makes Pacu Jawi interesting, festive, and different.Contested not with an opponent pair like the race but only released one by one, a jockey riding a pair of cows (Jawi) installed a rice hijacker while holding the rope and holding the tail of the two cows.The winner is the pair of cows (Jawi) who run the most straight without turning to the finish line. There are jockeys who can ride cows (Jawi) running fast or vice versa there are also cows (Jawi) who do not want to run, even leaving the jockey.

    The seat will be equipped with a pacemaker made of bamboo as a tool when the race begins. The tool is one of the tools used by farmers to plow fields.
    Pacu Jawi is now one of the hallmarks of West Sumatra, which is spread in the Tanah Datar and Limo Puluh kota areas, this attraction attracts domestic and foreign tourists to come to enjoy the unique and festive Pacu Jawi which is full of this masculine aura.When the show starts, you will see the jockey biting the cow's tail, the faster the cow runs.

    Another attraction in Pacu Jawi is the performance of dances and traditional musical instruments used by the local community.Pacu Jawi's activities have been going on since the time when the "Paderi" spread their influence in the Minangkabau area, at the same time, the influence of the kingdom of Pagaruyung decreased due to the VOC's power. at first, this activity was carried out to fill the leisure time of farmers who will enter the planting season.

MANGROVE PLANTING PROJECT

The Generation Sumatra Association in plantation conservation and focus on mangrove nurseries located in Sungai Pinang village by helping villagers and working with them, and our next goal in this association is to improve the education of local children. By giving them school fees for new teaching schools.
